I’m back
Oct 02Well guys I’ve been ignoring this blog for far to long. I’ve had my ups and downs to say the least. Here’s an update:
I’ve lost more weight now down 93 lbs (start preparing for my 100 loss party- you bring balloons)
I’ve come to the realization that I lie to myself about my eating behaviors so much that sometimes I believe ti
I realized that I need to see a psychologist to help me deal with some of the head games I’m playing with myself (appointment is in a week-I will keep you posted)
I’m once again on a closet purge
I realized my successes and failures begin and end with me
I still am in love with this surgery and the strength it’s given me to fight this battle
So yes, I guess I am being melancholy today.
Frenching Strawberry Shortcake: Premier Protein Strawberry Drink Review
Jul 11I was addicted to her. I kept her in my pocket and at off times I would put her up to my nose and squeeze all the strawberry-latex-tainted smell out of her. I speak, of course, to my dear strawberry shortcake. Her puffs of fruit flavor air tainted my nose for life – no one could ever live up to the level of smell sophistication that that little woman gave me so very early on. That was until I got my grubby little hands on some new-fangled strawberry protein drinks. Yumtastic indeed!
I was contacted via twitter to see if I would be willing to do a taste test of premier protein’s strawberry flavor.
Um hells yes.
For my POC (Protein of Choice- for all the “hard-core” protein users out in the world) I drink the premier protein chocolate.
I buy one big crate of it a month at Costco and drink it every morning as I drive in to work. For me, it’s the best I’ve found. So I had high hopes for this little wave of strawberry-ness.
The taste was crisp, sweet, light yet creamy with a slight protein aftertaste. The aftertaste was not overwhelming. Packed with 30g of protein and just a trace of sugar it’s a great way to start the day out right. This drink is akin to the strawberry milk of our collective pasts straight out of the squeeze jar- without that biting sharp sweetness laced so ever-presently in all children’s breakfast items nowadays.
My only issue is with that 1g of saturated fat…what’s up with that?
I give it a go: a happy sleeve, a elated scalpel, a gastric wonder…….I’m working on the details of my rating system as you can see.

Vacation and dropping another 5lbs
Jul 01I just got back from a two week vacation with hubby, baby and car. It was great. But now I’m back – and eventually I will get to writing in the blog again. Still walking the good walk (with a few mis-steps along the way). Until I get around to writing here’s a little ditty to print off and put on your fridge for a little inspiration.
Teens feelin’ the cinch: Lapbands for teens?
May 29I was THE high school big girl. It was devastating. When I graduated high school I wore a size 14/16 and I felt like no other child had ever been this large. It didn’t happen without a fight. I did everything from weight watchers to popping lifted diet pills to the point of the shakes. Nothing and I mean nothing worked. My parents tried in vein to help me loose weight-anyways the past is the past.
So I’m posed with a question. Would have I gone for the lap band as a teen? Yes, I would have and I believe my parents would have supported my decision. I also think it would have worked.
What do you guys think? Would you have wanted a lap-band as a teen? Would you support your son/daughter in receiving one?

ABC News
Jacy Johns had tried everything to lose weight — from the Slim Fast diet to Special K. She hit the gym and read “books and books and books” on weight loss. But Johns, an 18-year-old high school student from Jacksonville, Fla., couldn’t seem to shed the pounds. In her early teens, at 5 feet 5 inches, she weighed 225 pounds.
After years of trying, she’d had enough.
“I was scared because my health was getting so bad,” said Johns. “I knew I was pre-diabetic and I kept having to go to the doctor’s to get tested for diabetes.”
With her mother’s consent, Johns decided to undergo Lap-Band surgery, a procedure in which a silicone ring is placed around the top portion of the stomach to decrease food intake. The results thrilled Johns. She lost 95 pounds in the first nine months after surgery.
“I feel more upbeat and outgoing now, and I’m not so scared to be noticed,” said Johns. “I don’t try so hard to blend in anymore.”
“If I hadn’t done anything at that time, I was going to get diabetes,” continued Johns. “I was almost past the point of saving. I was ready to just accept that that was how I was going to be the rest of my life.”
and now, like Johns, more teenagers may have the opportunity to turn their weight around through La-Band procedures — possibly even with FDA approval. Currently, minors must have parent permission, but the Lap-Band creator, Allergan, has requested that the FDA approve Lap-Band procedures for anyone more than 14 years old.
Cathy Taylor, a spokesperson for Allergan, said the company made the request because of the increase in obese teenagers, and the disease’s correlation to life-threatening conditions such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes.
“In addition, the prevalence of obesity continues to rise, making it a significant health epidemic,” said Taylor. “Due to all of the above, Allergan continues to be committed to the research and development of the Lap-Band System to help those affected by obesity, to improve their health and lives.”
Month Five: How you doin’
May 28Well yes people I’m still here. Things are going well with me I’ve been crazy busy with shutting down school for the year and general life so things like this blog have not been kept up. I’ve dug my heels into this whole “sleeve-life” thing and I can tell you that I love it. I love it. I love it. I love it.
Stress- I’m am (for this year at least) one of the two Jr. Class sponsors at the school with the other out on maternity leave prom and all things prom defaulted to me. This might not seem like much-but it is 750+ students attend our prom and all the details need to be handled by someone. It came and went and I’m glad it’s over.
Running- as I said before I started the Couch to 5K training. This has dropped off in the last few weeks and I’m making an effort to regain my running legs this weekend. I have good friends at school who are going to run my first 5K with me. If you are a local DFW-er you are more then welcome to join.
Rahr & Sons Oktoberfest 5K
Clothing- Well I’m squeezing myself into a size 16 at this point (which is what I think I was when I graduated high school) therefore my closet basically needs to be replaced entirely. A blessing and a big problem all together. I’ve been donating left and right but I have been buying sparingly and with the season as I realize I will soon be out of that size as well.
Vacation- The school bell rings for the last time this year on June 9th – late to say the least. My husband, baby and I are taking off for a few weeks in California for a family wedding and a much needed rest. I can’t wait.
Weightloss- It’s coming off and just the other day I felt something very strange- my hipbone.
Inches lost since March: 11.5
Inches lost since surgery (Dec): 33.5
Total weight lost since March: 15lbs
Total weight loss since surgery (Dec): 74lbs (couldn’t crack the 75lb mark damn!)
Molting and Awaking the Thrift Store Diva from Within
Apr 29Molt (m lt) v.
To shed periodically part or all of a coat or an outer covering, such as feathers, cuticle, or skin, which is then replaced by a new growth.
v.tr.
To shed or cast off (a bodily covering).
n.
1. The act or process of molting.
2. The material cast off during molting.
I’ve never considered the molting of a crab but apparently they do and it’s disturbingly interesting to say the least.
So happy molting season people! Break out the exoskeleton and let’s get to working on the closets shall we.
Weight loss has been amazing. I’m actually beginning to FEEL my HIP BONES for the very first time in my life of (let’s just call it) 30 years. Clothing has simply been falling off me. Oh what joy. Wait. I don’t have other sizes of clothing. Ugh. Problem?
Within the glamor and excitement of changing shapes and becoming healthy one small problem has arisen. I can’t go to work (high school mind you) naked. Yup.
In the last month alone I’ve donated 5 trash bags full of clothing and I’ve taken three trips to the local consignment store to drop off nicer work clothing.

I still have a fair amount in my closet but it’s becoming slim pickings. So I’m writing this post in support of my local and favorite thrift stores. Yes thrift – the very word sends my heart into a bit of a flutter. I love them. Simply love them. So much so that I make my club at school do a yearly festival dedicated to what you can create from thrift stores for under twenty bucks.

Anyways I just wanted to let you know what a great resource a thrift store can be when your rapidly changing sizes.
